7 Tips So Your Makeup Lasts Longer

Posted by Rachael Phillips on 22nd May 2014

When you apply your make up in the morning the last thing you want to do is have to go through the same routine half way through the day. You want to put it on once and for it to last until you’re ready to hit the hay.

So here are a few top tips that will help you achieve that flawless look from morning until midnight…

  1. EXFOLIATE.
It’s obvious, if you put makeup on already flaky, dry skin then its going to come off. Make sure you exfoliate daily to buff away that dead skin.
  2. THERE IS A THING AS TOO MUCH MOISTURISING.
Whilst you don’t want dry skin, you also don’t want to over moisturise either as using too much will make your make up fade - fast.
  3. PRIME FIRST.
Using a primer is so worthwhile that when you start doing it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner. Primers contain silicone which smoothes over blemishes and lines. Giving you a flawless finish.
  4. LESS IS MORE.
The more make up you have on, the more make up you have to wear off. Scale down the amount of make up you wear and wear a thinner layer. Your skin will be grateful.
  5. START WEARING WATERPROOF.
For long lasting options switch to waterproof solutions. For example: waterproof mascara and eye pencils will be longer lasting than regular options.
  6. LIPSTICK OVER GLOSS
If you want long lasting lip colour then you’re going to have to start shunning the gloss. The best way is to fill your lip with a lip pencil and then apply a thin layer of lipstick.
  7. TRANSLUCENT POWDER IS YOUR FRIEND.
Professional make up artists swear by sheer powder. Don’t use too much though or you’ll end up with a chalky finish (ala Angelina Jolie). Run the powder over the key areas of chin, forehead and nose.
