We’re all aware of the term “Beauty Sleep” and often we put it down to a fairy tale but there is actually some truth in it.
Sleeping can make you look younger - fact.
I’m sure that if you’ve had a few late nights, too much junk food and too much booze that you’ll already know the difference it can make to your skin.
That’s because a lack of sleep causes blood vessels to dilate. When that happens you start noticing the dark circles around your eyes and we hate to tell you this but tired skin will sag and lose it’s lustre - leaving your looking older than your years.
Lack of sleep also does nothing for those stress levels, if you’re not getting enough shut eye then you’re likely to feel angry, stressed and on edge- again not doing much for your looks.
Here are a few tips on how to get a good nights sleep:
Put down your smartphones and tablets. Blue light (aka your mobile devices and tv) an hour before bed can seriously have some damage on your sleep patterns. Turn these devices off and you’ll find your sleep will dramatically improve.
Get a routine. Routines aren’t just for children. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
No caffeine. We know you’ve heard this before but if you want to avoid lying awake staring at the ceiling then you need to stop with the caffeine by at least 2pm.
Have SEX! Getting your blood pumping just before you go to sleep may not seem like the best idea but the release of endorphins that happens during sex will help you fall in to a deep slumber.
Meditate. Having a million thoughts whirling around your head just before you get in to bed won’t help you drift off to sleep. About an hour before going to bed (just after you turn that iPad off maybe?) write a list of what you need to get done the next day. When all that is out and down on paper then you can clear your mind and meditate. You'll feel relaxed and calm ready for bed.
