Acne

What is Acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions and yet also one of the most misunderstood. It is caused when hair follicles become blocked by sebum which the body produces to lubricate the hairs. If too much sebum is released, it mixes with dead skin cells and then plugs the hair follicles. The blocked follicles eventually bulge outwards, creating whiteheads or open up the surface of the skin to produce blackheads. The normally harmless bacteria which live on the skin can then infect the blocked follicles and the result is pimples. Acne isn’t only an issue for teenagers, it can affect people of all ages.

How do your control breakouts?

Acne is the subject of many myths including the suggestion that spots can be controlled by a change of diet. There is no evidence to suggest that any foods can improve acne or, indeed, make it worse. Sunbeds won’t help either and the changes which cause spots take place under the skin, so washing more often won’t stop those breakouts and could aggravate your skin further. The best approach is to tackle the sebum and the bacteria which cause blocked follicles to erupt into blemishes. Our carefully selected range of treatments will address these issues without drying out your skin.
